The Black Pearl takes a lot of hits on review websites but we've had great service and good food, the 3 times that we've been there. I'm a little miffed that they did away with their Cannonball Shrimp - it really was one of those most delicious things I had a couple years ago, while vacationing. But, what can you do? Our last time there, we got the Sunset Platter, Crab Legs (wood fired!), Filet Medallions and a Blackened Mahi Sandwich. ALL good and service was fantastic. I don't put it in our "must eat" category, while we're vacationing but...it's still worth a taste!

I'm a foodie and picky. Thanks s is my favourite restaurant in this area! The food is always fresh and has good flavour.

absolutely love this restaurant. They have the best crab cakes in the area and the staff is always very helpful and friendly. They are a little pricey, but it's definitely worth it.

I have eaten here twice. Food is tasteless and service is slow. Wait staff is friendly but this restaurant is just awful!

My overall impression: a restaurant aimed at the tourist, serving up mediocre fare with fancy names and descriptions, and charging higher prices for it. I went with a group for the first time recently and no one in our party was especially impressed with the food they ordered. Our server was nice enough, and all of our orders came out correct, but I'm personally really more concerned about the quality of my meal. I tasted nothing that made me close my eyes and chew pleasurably slow, nothing made me say "wow, that was great!" I'm pretty sure I wouldn't return.

The Black Pearl was fantastic! The food was great and so was the service. My family shares food so I got to try several dishes. My favorites were the bacon wrapped scallops, the ceviche, and the Gouda grits. We've been eating out in the area all week and we all agreed that this was our favorite.

Surprisingly impressed! I didn't have high expectations going in because it seemed like a very tourist-y spot. I'm more of a hole-in-the-wall amazing food person. Blackened grouper was delish! Crab cakes were yummy. Kid's grilled fish was yummy! Bartender, Joe, was great! He made us a raspberry daiquiri that was oh so great! We also had the ceviche and it was good. The filet was fantastic! The lobster mac and cheese was alright.

Had a great date night at Black Pearl with our hometown neighbors who happened to be in the area on vacation too. Ordered appetizers of shrimp cocktail and oysters Rockefeller. The shrimp was fresh with a twist of mango added which was a nice touch. The oysters had more of a crumb topping, but also good. For entrees we had the grouper papillotte, shrimp and grits, mahi/shrimp combo, and mahi/steak combo. All were good, fresh, well prepared. Nothing new or exciting here but solid, simple food. The waiter said the kitchen made the wrong grouper dish and so he was taking it off the bill. He brought us the wrong dish "as a snack" and the the correct dish as well, not charging is for either. Both grouper dishes were good, and I frankly liked the "wrong" one better. Very considerate and service oriented. We were also seated right next to a open beach window at dusk which was exceptionally charming as the weather was beautiful. I've been here twice before and will come again. Standard seafood fare, good service and an exceptional view.

I rarely post negative reviews on Yelp and wasn't going to, but I feel like I owe it to my fellow yelpers. There are so many great places to try in Ft Walton Beach, but the Black Pearl isn't one of them. The view is nice, but their windows are very dirty and make a clear day appear cloudy. The menu appears to have very yummy options. Only we did not get what we ordered. My husband ordered a fish dish that was "pan seared" with a creole sauce. It arrived breaded and dry and was clearly baked. They served it with marinara on top - nothing like creole sauce. My fish was wayyyy overdone and tough. Oh and they clearly have no idea what goes into Oysters Rockafellar. Unless I missed something and sawdust is actually an ingredient. Go to Boshamps. Every night you're in Ft Walton. You won't be disappointed!

I was pleasantly surprised by my trip to the Black Pearl. I was expecting just another tourist trap, but it was much better. Our meal included very well crafted cocktails (watermelon margarita) from the bar, delicious filet medallion and crab legs combo and friendly service. The crab legs were tossed on the grill with a nice spice mix on the shell. Our meal was served with bread and oil mix as well. This is definitely a step up in quality from the other restaurants in the area. Probably our best dinner during a week filled with overly - commercialized restaurants.

Food was average but service was terrible. Restaurant opened at 4pm and they would not let us in at 355, not even to sit at the bar, even though the hostess was already on duty out front. Our waiter touched our food every time he brought something out. Thumb in the oil-vinegar, palm on the bread loaf, hand grazing the vegetables. Gross! When we pointed out a long black hair in the salad he did not apologize but instead said, "Oh look at that, a hair." Lots of flies and bugs everywhere, and don't stare too long at those waving decorative fans or you will see they are actually covered in a layer of filth. I will not go back.

This place served my husband the most rotten, smelly filet ever!!! They literally cooked and served my husband an old steak that smelt like week old trash! The smell was so pungent- I can't believe the cook prepared that food. He had to definitely smell the rotten meat smell while he was cooking it. My husband ordered the steak medium rare, but the cook tried to cook the shell out if it, and got the filet very well done. The waiter told us he could smell it as he was walking the food to our table. The waiter Travis should've never served the rancid meat to us. When we got home I threw up my dinner as well! I've never been served food this awful. Do not go there! I would in NO way eat here again! Even locals told me not to eat at the Black Pearl. If I can give NO stars- I would!

We were seated promptly in an open air area. Back home this would be unacceptable and we'd all be whining. Something about an ocean view, though! Food was good and our server Brandon was great. Sounds frim some reviews that it can be hit or miss. We got a hit tonight!

If I could give it a worse ranking I would. They claim to have the best seafood in destin. Now that's funny. The kids food was a joke. The crab cakes were made with bottom of the barrel crab meat but they charge a premium for three cakes. Here is some advise. By better product and only give two good cakes instead of three terrible cakes. When you start with crap product you only end up with a crap result. Let's not forget about the horrible roasted vegetables and dirty rice that comes with every meal. You would think that having such limited options for sides that it might be executed well. Wrong. I guess that is what I get for getting suckered into the stereotypical tourist trap of a seaside restaurant like this. Jokes on me.

This is by far the worst dining experience we have had in 30 years of Gulf vacations. The food was uneatable; literally the first time I have ever had a server take my dinner away. Instead of taking the food to the trash, the server sent the General Manager to the table. He told us how long he had been in the business and how he would not "allow" his "executive" chef to serve anything but a perfect meal. Meeting him was worse than the meal. An apology would have sufficed. Note to self...when a restaurant can seat you immediately on a holiday weekend, DO NOT ENTER!!!

Kind of reminded me of red lobster food. Pretty good nonetheless. My waiter Travis was super friendly. I had the miracle platter which has a thin fillet of mahi mahi, some small scallops, a crab cake, and a few grilled shrimp. I think the shrimp were my favorite.

We waited about 10 minutes for a table. We got a great seat, looking out over the beach and gulf. I'm not a fish eater, but my wife is.. She got the coconut shrimp and raved about how good it was. I got one of them steaks with the bacon wrapped around it on some taters. I like it. Our daughter got some chicken and, as usual, wanted to climb out the window and see what other high risk things she could do while her parents were occupied. Good service, good food. Great views. Our check was $60 for two adult entrees and a kids meal (no booze or soda).

It's a nice looking restaurant with great views. The food was bland and we felt it did not meet up to the standard of the type of ambience this place perceives to be. We ordered the lobster dip appetizer. There weren't any chunks of lobster and the consistency seems more like that of pimento cheese. It may have been more bearable with chips but instead it was served with soft pita slices. We sent my daughters cheese pizza back (we never send things back) because it was the worst microwave style pan pizza we had ever seen. It was incredibly doughy and only topped with a lot of sauce and barely visible cheese. How can you go wrong with pizza??? I ordered the Mahi-Mahi, it was very bland. It was served under-cooked and with a very lack-luster salad with very limited toppings (2 tomatoes, 2 cucumbers, a head of lettuce and a sprinkle of Parmesan). I could've made way better at home. My fiancé offered the ribeye, which he orders almost everywhere we go and he said it was worse than a Waffle House type steak. That says it all. We're not food snobs by any means but if you are paying this price for this quality of food - stay away and spend your $ elsewhere.

Service was GREAT (we had a large group in the off-season, so got plenty of attention). Shrimp was excellent. Something was ..off... about my mahi mahi. Maybe the salsa was weird, but the fish tasted old.

We made a reservation for few hours early & had a party of 13. We actually got seated a little early, which was nice. The parking is terrible. There are so many things close by so it is very hard to get a parking spot. The waitress wasn't the greatest but wasn't the worst either. Seemed a little slow with getting everything to our table. But once I got the food, I forgot about the waitress and the parking! The steak is delicious and so is their chicken sandwich. This was definitely the best food I ate while in the Ft Walton area!

Anniversary mistake! And our first anniversary no less. We walk in to a very empty restaurant and are promptly seated right next to the noisy kitchen entryway. I asked to be seated elsewhere, since it was a special occasion, and received a surly response from the hostess. Once seated I noticed a pool of water on our table and upon greeting us our server noticed it was condensation coming from the air conditioning vent above our heads. Never did he apologize or offer to wipe up the pooling water. On to the food. My husband went out on a limb and ordered the venison over new potatoes and I had the snow crab. They don't specify but the venison are medallions (bad idea). His potatoes were very underdone and the meat unappetizing. The crab comes with the house lime and cilantro rice (dry, bland and cold) with grilled veggies (also cold, but cooked at least). The crab was steamed nicely and had a wood grilled taste. After suffering through probably the worst meal I have had at $24 an entree, we threw caution to the wind and ordered a piece of the raved about key lime pie to go (my husbys fave). If it was homemade, which I doubt, it was not worth the $6.95 we spent. Bad food, bad service, bad music. Try it if you want, but don't ruin the only first anniversary you will ever have.

Great location, even if it is the middle of an over the top tourist trap. Great staff very attentive. Food was excellend and the woodfire flavor does come through. Do agree with previous poster the Mahi Mahi was odd; more fishy than should have been. However, the scallops and shrimp were excellent.

Worst service EVER!!!!! Sat for over 1 1/2 hours with 4 children and 6 adults while all the tables around us were served and no one ever came to check on us. Children ate an hour before adults. Then, we finally conpalined and got under cooked food. Terrible, teerrible, terrible. Don't do it!!!!!! Food was under cooked, bad, yucky, ugh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Then they included the tip for HORRIBLE SERVICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Do Not go there!

I wasn't sure what to expect from the Black Pearl, given it's location in a touristy hub and the sub par reviews on Yelp, but my husband and I had an absolutely wonderful experience. I had the filet and it was cooked to perfection, tender and sliced as easily as butter and the mozzarella on top was a unique twist I hadn't had on a steak before. The service was amazing and our server even recommended some half price wines the restaurant was discontinuing that turned out to be an absolutely fabulous compliment to our meal. I was somehow talked into dessert and had an absolutely amazing Key Lime Pie with a graham cracker and walnut crust - it was amazing! Also, you can't beat the view of the water!

What would your expect from a restaurant that really pushes its "wood fired seafood" gimmick? You would probably think the have a nice wood burning grill back there in the kitchen, right? Well that is not the case here sadly... Your "wood fired seafood" gets cooked on a regular GAS grill with wood chips at the bottom to give it a bit of wood flavor. To say the least this turned out to be a big disappointment for me. There is a huge difference in having your food cooked on a natural hardwood grill and a gas grill with a few wood chips.

Came here September 1st 2012 Saturday night 9:30 pm Ordered: lobster jambalaya, two fish entree, and jumbo shrimp with veggies Pros: no waiting seated right away Cons: both fish entree were served very small and bland. When I say bland, I mean bland to the 10th degree. I'm from NYC and frequent seafood restaurant so I am versed in these matters. Lobster jambalaya was good Jumbo shrimps were not jumbo at all just regular sized shrimps, why call them jumbo? Left the place hungry still. Coming from a beach area, we were expecting more from this place. I would recommend to avoid this tourist trap establishment unless you want lots of alcohol, which they do provide. Go to Dewey Destin Seafood Restaurant across the street from Destin Village Inn and you will not be disappointed.

Being the Foodies we are, researching restaurants in advance of a trip is a big part of our planning. Not much popped up on our radar for the panhandle of Florida trip planning. We were so pleasantly surprised to find this jewel the first night at Fort Walton Beach! The food was so good and the menu had so many things we wanted to try, we ended up eating there every night of our six night stay. Everything was wonderful, but the wood fired salmon with lemon dill sauce, the blackened lobster and the grilled asparagus had to be our favorites.

My wife and I saw this restaurant while sitting on the public beach and decided to eat here later in the week. I had noticed in a local paper they offer a special two can dine for $29.99 fantastic price for one appetizer 2 glasses of wine 2 entrees and dessert. I had also read that they have martinis that are wonderful and there were specials for happy hour. The menu is a bit all over the place with different specials. When we asked our waitress about the specials she got a bit confused with them. I specifically asked about a martini special and she said there were none but there was a Bacardi special. Never ordered other drink than the glass of wine we had other with our meal. I had overheard the waiter next us telling the table about the drink specials. It made us believe our waitress maybe new or did not understand the specials. I had ordered the fish and my wife had ordered the medallions. My fish was fantastic my wife on the other hand had had her medallions over cooked. once this was noticed the waitress immediately brought out a new plate for her. My wife noticed there were 2 chefs working there this night and a different chef had made her second plate, because he plated it completely different and it looked amazing and was amazing. I would have given the Black Pearl 5 stars if I had not overheard the other waiter telling about the drink specials or the medallions came out perfect the first time.

OK...Now that the Earth has returned to its axis and I'm walking straight again, I can review the Black Pearl. At least I think I can. I might still be slightly drunk. (Hiccup) That, my friends, is not because I'm a slosher, but because I had one and some sips, not even two bellini-tini drinks, and whoever was tending bar was extremely generous with the pouring. I almost want to slap him or her because I had a great dinner at the BP and there's no reason in hell that 1+a few sips of 'tini should have wasted it, but the God Neptune must have been insulted that I tainted his fruits of the sea with drink, for later he ordered that it be banished from my swirling tummy, and it was done. I'll spare you the details. Nevertheless, I must highly rank BP and here's why: 1. OK, so *I* couldn't handle my 'tini'. Maybe it was the Schnapps (I've never had it). Maybe I should have sipped more slowly. I take the blame. Most places skimp on the alcohol. BP does not. 2. View. You can never beat a water view. (Unless your 'tini is making you seasick. My bad). 3. Cleanliness. It's next to godliness. (Then again, as mentioned, Neptune's wrath was closer to me than I would have liked. My bad again). 4. Warm bread and dip. This was an herbed olive oil parmesan cheese with red pepper flakes. I normally find olive oil bread dips a waste of calories and lacking taste. Don't be turned off by the red pepper flakes. They make the oil come together, and the whole arrangement really sings. Delish. 5. Soft Shell Crab. I'm on the fence with the SSC. I wanted to try it because I never had it, and instead of an entree, they obligingly (I might have just made that word up) offered it as a side. Now, frankly, I'm afraid of crabs. Not just the STD, but if I see one scurrying along the beach, I scream and jump into the arms of the closest person. I've gotten a few dates by accident this way, and one offer for counseling. So the alcohol gave me the bravado needed to try the giant spidery looking snack. Given proper eating technique from the server, I commenced consumption of crunchy crab. (How's that for alliteration?) Not bad, ok..but definitely weird. Remember, I got violently ill later on, and although this was a soft crab, and you eat the WHOLE INTACT animal, I believe it had revenge on its mind and it grew its sharp-ass shell back while it had time to think in my stomach, thus slicing and dicing my esophagus like a Ginsu knife on the way back up. 6. Mahi-Mahi (just fun to say),grilled shrimp, scallops, roasted veggies, garlic mashies. All good. Would have prefered sea scallops to the tiny bay scallops. And I'm really ready for someone to come up with something new besides 'garlic' mashed potatoes. It's getting old.... How about wasabi? 7. Children's Menu. BIG STARS for this! First restaurant where kids' menu is not all fried junk food! In fact, it is ALL grilled! YAY! But only two big shrimp presented, Boo! 8. Earlybirds. We hit BP between 4-6 so we got reasonable prices...nothing over $12, and C's Triggerfish fillet well overlapped his plate. Bottom line, although I was sick all night, I believe it was nothing to do with the food. C was fine and so was daughter. I'm a lightweight, and I think I just cannot do Schnapps. (Hic) I'd go back in a heartbeat. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to spend the rest of the day in a dark, quiet room.

My co-worker and I stopped by the Black Pearl for dinner one night this week. We caught a taxi from our hotel and headed over to the restaurant. I have to admit that I was a bit dismayed as we pulled into a neon-lit wonderland that reminded me of Disney's Pleasure Island and Westside in Orlando. But suprisingly, things were pretty quiet. While I don't think I would enjoy that area during high-season, it's nice in the off-season. We arrived around 6:30 and had maybe a ten-minute wait for a table. They don't have beepers, but they'll take your cell number and call you when your table's ready. We walked around a bit, but all but one of the storefronts was closed. We came back around to the restaurant and were seated momentarily. The restaurant was fairly dark, with your ubiquitous nautical theme. I looked for pirates, but didn't see any signs. Our waitress (Stephany) greeted us and took our drink orders quickly. After looking over the menu, I went for the fresh catch of the day (salmon with a red thai chili paste) with a side of seasonal veggies and cajun mac and cheese. My co-worker went with the Alaskan snow crab with the seasonal veggies and the jumbo asparagus. After taking our order, our waitress returned with rolls and a pesto-style dipping oil. That was some pretty tasty oil and made for some great dippin'. Soon enough, our food arrived. The portions were fairly good sized for the price. My co-worker was not able to finish her meal. At their thickest, the asparagus was roughly quarter-size in diameter. My salmon was cooked on a cedar plank and was well-seasoned. The mac and cheese could have used a bit more spice, but was decent, and the veggies were steamed and were passable. Both of our meals came to about $40 together. If I was back in town, I might try to stop by again for lunch. It was nothing spectacular, but it was a pretty solid meal and the service was good.

We had a large group go. A few had snow crab, which was overcooked. A few had steak that was undercooked, but had decent flavor. I had the crab bisque, and it tasted like someone put frozen seafood in a blender along with dirt and then added some cream, heated and served. On the good side, no one got sick from the raw oysters. No one in the group would ever go back.

A little hard to find for a firsttimer. Don't think of this as a romantic place because while they have views of the water, we had to look past the volleyball court. That said, the food wad pretty good. They start with bread and a nice dipping mixture. What impressed me about that in particular was the quality of the basalmic vinegar they used. If you aren't aware, the sweeter the vinegar, the longer it has been aged. I was actually able to find the same stuff a couple of days later in a store. My wife had the Mahi and I had Mahi and tenderloin medallions. I was not disappointed. The steak was tender and the fish was perfectly grilled.

When I initially saw the Miracle Strip from street, I was hesitant about stopping by to check the place out because it looked extremely commercialized with all of the bright lights and neon signs that reminded me Las Vegas. The word "Cheesy" instantly popped into my mind. Despite the cheesy appearance on the exterior, I decided that the strip was bound to have at least one good restaurant, so I asked random people in the parking lot what they thought was the best and almost every person informed me that the Black Pearl had the best food by far. I trusted the strangers and decided to dine at the Black Pearl. The place is really nice on the inside and does a very good job of separating itself from the cheesiness that exists on the exterior portion of the Miracle Strip. It was furnished with nice oak tables and chairs. My favorite part about the inside was the swinging fans on the ceiling, that looked similar to the type servants would fan a king with in the era when there was no such thing as air conditioning. My only complaint really is the price of the food. It was ridiculously expensive; however, it was also amazingly delicious. I personally think they should lower their prices by at least $5 an entree. I ordered the lobster pasta ($27), and I think when I initially took my first bite my taste buds had an orgasm. The waitress we had was also incredible. My mom was really thirsty from a day at the beach, so she was drinking water like a camel preparing for a walk in the desert. The waitress was right there every time she depleted her glass, smiling and occasionally giggling about how thirsty my mother was. Also, I loved how there were not many kids in the place running around and getting on my nerves like at other places I had been to on my trip.....especially Fudpuckers, which also had terrible food. Overall, I highly recommend you visit this place. One of the better seafood restaurants in the area.

We enjoy going to the early bird specials-affordable and great seafood-I love the seafood grill-Mahi mahi, shrinp and scallops-delicious! My husband had the seafood scampi and he loved it! The oysters are very good as well. Definitely try it!!

The Black Pearl has a prime location on Okaloosa Island...right on the beach. The restaurant's windows flip up/open to connect diners with the beach and gulf right outside. Thus, the price is at a premium, but they pull out all stops in preparing and presenting fresh seafood that's guaranteed to satisfy you. Wait staff is always impressive. On our second visit, our server recognized us and brought us a "locals discount" card for use during all our future visits. I highly recommend the whole split crab...so much goodness with no work at all. Daily specials are also offered. The Black Pearl is on the list of dinner places for when company comes to town--some unique shopping opportunities just next door as well.

This place has the best food and service. As the other reviewer mentioned, the Black Pearl is in a boardwalk mall with plenty of other restaurants, but I can't imagine that any of them are nearly as good. I sat at the bar, and Steve the bartender was excellent. I believe the other servers were just as good, as I asked the one a lot of questions, and he was more than willing to help, even though he wasn't getting my tip. The special drink, Margarita, was excellent, strong, and reasonably priced ($8). The crab dip ($12) and entree specials ($25) were perhaps a little pricey, but the dip definitely was worth it. Perfectly crisp on top, creamy inside, and chunky with fresh artichoke. I don't drink beer, but overheard they only have bottles, no draft. Steve and another customer, and the awesome waiter, kept me thoroughly entertained my entire meal :)

Wife and I were conflicted about going here because of the large variance in reviews. I have a sense the timing matters--we went early (5:30) mid week. We were seated right away, window seat looking on the beach, watching surf and waves and dolphins jumping out of the water right offshore. Recommend very casual dress. Our server was very good and efficient. Wife ordered a grilled Miracle Strip Platter for $24, I had the grilled Sunset platter off the Sunset menu for about $14, the main difference between the two was a crab cake, and a somewhat larger piece of fish for hers. Both dishes were very good, with fresh grilled vegetables and rice. I also ordered a side Caesar salad for $2.50 extra, it was also very good, and wife and I split a shrimp cocktail, which was fine (mango in the cocktail sauce was interesting). Bread came with the meal. My wife ordered a dessert after, which she was happy with (s'mores bread pudding), though it was a bit too sweet for my personal taste. With two drinks bill was about $60, part of which is a "can't beat it" view. I can see if it's crowded, with a long wait, the $25-$30 per normal entree would irritate folks--and it's in the heart of 'tourist central' too--but we enjoyed it very much.

I was in town for several nights in a row and ate at many nearby places including the Black Pearl. I ordered the Pearl Platter which consisted of shrimp, lobster tail, snow crab legs, and amberjack. I get that the theme of the restaurant is wood fired menu items, but the crab legs and lobster tail were both over cooked and dried out due to them wood firing them after steaming them. Also since both of those are in shells it doesn't add anything to the taste by doing that so it was just a waste. The shrimp and amberjack were both tasty, but overshadowed by the inedible lobster and crab. The side item of potato crisps were awesome, they are homemade chips. The restaurant wasn't crowded, we had a group of 10 and were seated immediately. If you're wanting lobster and/or crab I would go to the crab trap next door, which we ate at the night before and was awesome. There isn't outdoor seating here, which also takes away, but most tables are against the big opened windows so you can still enjoy the view.
